EKSU Celebrates Excellence at 29th Convocation Ceremony – Over 15,000 Students Graduate



March 29, 2025 - Ekiti State University (EKSU) held its 29th Convocation Ceremony on March 28, 2025, marking a historic day as thousands of students were awarded degrees and diplomas. The event, held at the university's main auditorium, was graced by royal fathers, academic dignitaries, and government officials.

Royal Presence & Distinguished Guests

The ceremony began with the recognition of esteemed royal fathers:

  • HRM Oba Adetunji Ayodele Ajayi, Aarinjale of Ise-Ekiti
  • HRM Oba Bolanle Adenike Ogundare, Regent of Oniworoko of Iworoko-Ekiti
  • HRM Oba (Dr) Gabriel Adejuwon, Onisan of Isan-Ekiti

Notable personalities in attendance included:

  • Former Registrar, Mr. E.A. Ogunyemi and Chief Mrs. Bisi Ogunyemi
  • Former Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Patrick Tedela
  • Hon. Commissioner for Education, Science & Technology, Dr. Aderiye (represented by Mr. Michael)

Academic Procession & Opening

The academic procession commenced at 10:35 AM, featuring:

  • The Director of Student Affairs
  • Student Union leaders
  • Alumni representatives
  • Deans, Professors, and Principal Officers from EKSU and other universities

The event officially began with the rendition of the National Anthem, Ekiti Anthem, and EKSU Anthem. The Registrar delivered a speech, followed by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joseph Babatola Ayodele, who declared the convocation open at 10:45 AM.

Pro-Chancellor's Address Highlights EKSU's Achievements

Prof. Akin Oyebode, Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, commended Ekiti State Governor, H.E. Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, for his support. Key achievements highlighted included:

  • EKSU ranked No. 1 State University in Nigeria
  • Provision of shuttle buses for students
  • Expansion of accredited programs, including:
    • Medical Laboratory Science
    • Mass Communication
    • Pharmacy
    • Criminology & International Relations

He urged graduates to uphold the university's values as they step into the world.

Vice-Chancellor's Speech & Graduating Statistics

Prof. Joseph Babatola Ayodele, the 9th Substantive Vice-Chancellor, reminisced about his own graduation in 1992. He announced:

Total Graduands: 15,981

  • 200 First Class
  • 5,406 Second Class (Upper Division)
  • 9,076 Second Class (Lower Division)
  • 1,295 Third Class
  • 4 Pass

Key Achievements Under His Leadership:

  • Renovation of leaking buildings
  • Repair of Omolayo Auditorium roof
  • Upgraded school gate & fence
  • Hostel renovations for male and female students

Award Presentations & Best Graduating Student

Prof. L.B. Ajayi presented awards to outstanding graduates. The Overall Best Graduating Student for the 2022/2023 session was:

The ceremony concluded at 1:36 PM with closing remarks from the Vice-Chancellor.
